I'm new to Node.js and Pug and haven't found a beginner-friendly answer in some of the similar posts I've read. Thanks, and apologies for what might be a very simple question. So, does one always have to use an if statement each time you want to access the properties of a local variable or the properties of an object that you pass in, if those individual properties have not been directly defined as other variables like in the example of name I posted above?

I noticed that if pass an additional local variable of name, then I can call that variable directly inside the template with no need to use an if statement, and no errors will fire.

this does NOT work, kicks up error 'Cannot read property 'name' of undefined' P Repeat name below after submitting form, using 'body.name' with 'body' local variable that was passed in:
